Austin Urban

Austin has been hunting for over 10 years now. He started hunting turkey when he was 12 and has always been able to get a bird or two a year. He has also hunted deer for a couple years now with his largest buck being a 12 point non – typical. He was never really in to waterfowl until he was about 17. Over the last 5 years he has learned how to call pretty well and is one of the lead goose callers on Team DrakeTakers. Over the last 3 years Austin has shot 3 bands, 1 snow goose and 2 Canadian geese.

Austin says that, "as a Goose caller I started with a flute and have now mastered the short reed. My first short reed was “The Pit Boss” by Knight and Hale. This was a great starter call but now that I have become kind of experienced I use a call called the “Goose Blues” made by Table Leg Calls out of Topeka Kansas. This is a great short reed that needs very little back pressure but you can still get the deep “growler” sound that everyone wants. When it comes to duck calling I use the red Quack Head call it isn’t an expensive call and it is very easy to use. It allows me to do all aspects of calling. It has a great High ball and you can still get the feeder call that everyone wants to get those ducks to finish in your laps."
